Crawley 21 Burgess Hill 17
Our first match since mid December saw Crawley come up against a very strong Burgess Hill squad. The match was played in quarters to allow squad changes and recuperation. Crawley came out of the blocks well with two tries in quick succession by Liam, self converted. Burgess Hill struck back with a well worked try to bring the score to 14 – 5. Crawley began to play to their strengths by keeping the ball tight with the pack taking control; this lasted for long periods and culminated in another try and conversion for Liam. Burgess Hill responded almost immediately with another well worked try. With the score now 21 – 10, Crawley took control of the ball in the tight and were extremely strong in the scrum. In the last quarter Crawley began to tire and Burgess Hill’s numbers began to take effect. Crawley’s tackling became more ragged and a run of Penalties ensued culminating in a penalty try to Burgess Hill. The match continued and both sides became more ragged. Crawley’s Team work was extremely good and “under 8” rugby is becoming a thing of the past. Jack Plane was awarded man of the match for the unselfish work he provided for the team.
