SEPTEMBER 13TH 2008 MATCH REPORT

Crawley RFC win opening game 70 - 5 against Hellingly RFC

Crawley hosted Hellingly in a curtain raiser for the start of the league season. The weather and pitch provided a perfect combination for what proved to be a day for Crawley.

After a gruelling pre season fitness campaign and a perfect start in our friendly games Crawley took the field fired up and keen to get the game started.

From the first whistle Crawley pack took the game to Hellingly not allowing the opposition any time to create platform for the Hellingly backs to work from.
The line out was superb while our scrummaging, ruck and mauling saw Hellingly struggle increasingly. The backs now having a stable platform were fed constant good clean ball with the scrum half providing a quick release for Crawley's back line to continue to break through Hellinglys defence and it was in the 9th minute when we first broke through to score.
Hellingly took a constant pounding in the forwards, with scrum ball being taken against the head and the two K's sublime in the line out winning opposition ball almost at will.

The backs now supplied with perfect ball were now able to work through well drilled moves and were constantly pounding Hellinglys defence who were under pressure constantly. The tries were now free flowing with the backs and forwards scoring on most opportunities, with the link up and support play being professional and surgical good quick ball seemed to be ever available.

Congratulations to B.Robson on his debut coming in with a hat trick and to K. Coulter for his debut try way out on the wing.

A big thanks to the many supporters and Balcony Baboons who cheered and supported with gusto and got behind the team.

Training Tuesday and Thursdays with the Physio in attendance Tuesdays.
